“I Was Around Someone With Lice!” What You Should Do
First and foremost, understand that if you have hair on your head, you’re gonna get lice, and that no shampoo, hairspray or gel will work to deter lice.
Most cases of lice infestation occur because of head-to-head contact or hair-to-hair contact. This could either happen through hugs, taking selfies, sharing a hairbrush or comb or by sharing pillows. Anytime your head touches something that was used by the infested person, you will get lice.
Now, while it’s quite unrealistic to just stop such basic human contact, if your hair have indeed become infested with lice, here’s what you need to do.
Damage Control – What to Do if You Have Lice
The best offense is a good defense. Start by following the tips below:Do regular head checks. Use a nit comb to determine whether you really have lice.
Target the more common areas i.e. behind the ears, at the base of your neck etc.
Put your hair up into a bun, a ponytail or a braid.
Keep your brushes, helmets and hats, any headgear you wear separate from those around you.
DO NOT USE over-the-counter products for lice removal. They are ineffective and can also be harmful.
Communicate with the people around you that you have lice so there’s no fear of further infestation.
Wash the clothes you wore when you met the person who has lice in warm water.
