HOW TO PERFORM A LICE HOME CLEANING

If you’ve just had a case of lice, you know that even though the troubles may be off your head, they can still be lurking around your house on pillowcases and hairbrushes. Not a pleasant thought. When our customers leave Lice Troopers, they leave lice free. However, this doesn’t mean their living space isn’t still home to these pesky parasites. That’s why we recommend that the first thing you do when you get home from treatment is to perform a though lice home cleaning. A lot of parents will go crazy trying to meticulously search their home for any traces of the infestation or will go overboard with the cleaning, believing that they’ll never get the house completely lice free. But there is no need to panic. Follow these simple steps to make sure your home is completely free of bugs and nits. 1. Isolate Start by going through the house and taking all of the items that may have been exposed to lice and putting them in one spot where they won’t be used. If there are items that cannot be washed, such as plush toys, place them into a sealed plastic bag and isolate in the freezer for two weeks. 2. Throw Out Certain hair items and hairbrushes won’t be able to be cleaned or boiled effectively. In these cases, we recommend that you simply throw the item away. Buying a new hairbrush is definitely preferable to undergoing another case of lice. 3. Wash & Dry All sheets, towels, hats, coats and clothing items that have been exposed to lice should be washed in hot water (130 degrees) and then dried in a hot dryer for one hour. There’s no need to wash every set of sheets or towels in the closet, but all bedding and towels that have been in use during the infestation should be washed and dried. 4. Wipe Down Wipe down leather and leather-like surfaces using a damp cloth. This includes furniture and car headrests. Wipe off plastic toys. 5. Vacuum Once all of the potentially lice-exposed items have been removed and cleaned, vacuum the furniture upholstery, and then all carpets and rugs. One thorough vacuuming is all you need. 6.
