Checking Your Head for Lice- A Step by Step Guide

One of the most obvious symptoms for head lice is an itchy scalp and trouble sleeping. But if you or your children are scratching their heads a lot, it doesn’t mean you should jump to the conclusion that it could be a lice infestation. It’s not exactly easy to spot lice in the hair since they’re usually buried deep within your scalp. Nonetheless, you should be prepared to treat lice because it is fairly common in children, young adults and even adults. Before you seek treatment, you should make sure that you do, in fact, that you have lice in your hair. If you have never had to check for lice and have no idea how or where to start, you don’t have to worry about it because we’ll tell you just how to tackle this head on (pun intended).

What are you looking for?

The first step is to determine what exactly you are in search for. You can only be certain of an infestation of lice in the head by finding b nits, nymph or a fully grown adult louse on the scalp or a strand of hair. This will not be an easy task since lice are very small in size, about the size of a sesame seed, but they are not microscopic. They also tend to change to the color of the person’s hair, which can make it even more difficult to find them. This will deter your search for the culprits but remember the key is to find them early so you can contain the infestation before it gets out of hand.

Start with damp hair

Try to start a search when you or your child have just showered and washed their hair because it will be easier to part wet hair. You can choose to use a detangling treatment like a conditioner if you want to avoid unnecessary hair breakage.

Part your hair

You can either push their hair back while it is damp or wet or you can make sections down the middle vertically from the forehead and horizontally from one ear to the other. You will then have four sections of the head parted and you can inspect them individually to be more thorough.

Run a comb

Use a nit comb remover or lice comb and run it through by placing it flat on top of your child’s head. Start with the root of the hair and run the comb till the end of the hair and make sure the comb stays close to the scalp at all times because that is where the likelihood of finding lice is higher. Repeat  the process for each section until you find something.

Seek treatment

Once you find a sign of lice, or even nits, you should seek treatment immediately. If you are in search for lice removal services in Orlando, Florida, then look no further.
